🎧 The 10 Most Annoying Things DJs Face While Working (and How to Avoid Them!)

The festive season is in full swing, and at Sounds International Discos, we’re absolutely thriving! From Christmas parties to end-of-year celebrations and festive weddings, this is the time of year we live for — bringing music, energy, and unforgettable memories to dance floors across Shropshire and beyond.

But while we love what we do, every DJ will tell you there are a few universal challenges that come with the territory — especially during party season.

So, in the spirit of fun (and to help keep the music flowing smoothly), here’s a light-hearted look at 10 things you should avoid doing when your DJ is in the zone. Trust us, a little consideration goes a long way toward keeping those good vibes alive!

1. “Play My Song Next, My Taxi’s Here!”

We get it — you’re on a high, the night’s been amazing, and your lift home is waiting outside. But asking us to bump your song to the top of the queue (especially something like Sweet Caroline) can really throw off the carefully built momentum of the night. Pro tip: Soak up the music while you can — your send-off song might already be part of our plan!

2. Requesting a Song During Dinner

Picture this: the room is calm, guests are enjoying their roast turkey, and the DJ is letting the atmosphere breathe before the party kicks off. Then someone rushes over to demand Mr. Brightside. It’s all about timing — trust us, the party playlist is primed and ready for after dessert!

3. Dancing With Drinks by the DJ Booth

We love your enthusiasm, and we definitely want to see you dance. But please, keep the cocktails, beers, and bubbles well away from the booth. Spilled drinks on decks, mixers, or laptops can cause serious damage (and instant panic). So raise your glass on the dance floor, not over the DJ’s gear!

4. Coming Behind the Booth Without Permission

Think of the DJ booth as a cockpit, it’s where the magic happens, but it’s not open to passengers! Uninvited guests behind the booth can be distracting, and one wrong step could lead to a cable catastrophe. The best seat in the house is always on the dance floor — we promise.

5. Requesting Songs Only You Will Enjoy

Every crowd has that one person who’s dying to hear a song no one else knows. We love enthusiasm for music, but obscure personal favourites don’t always fit the room’s vibe. DJs read the crowd constantly, if your tune fits the flow, we’ll slot it in. If not, we’ll keep the energy high in other ways.

6. Demanding Songs That Clash With the Vibe

Imagine this: the dance floor is bouncing to an upbeat club mix, and someone requests a slow love ballad. Mood. Killer. It’s not that we don’t appreciate your song choice, it just needs the right moment. Trust the process; we’ll find a time when it truly shines.

7. Using Aggressive Gestures From the Dance Floor

The dreaded “cut-throat” sign, finger-pointing, or dramatic eye rolls, they’ve all made an appearance at some point! Remember, every song is someone’s favourite. If the current track isn’t your jam, grab a drink, have a laugh, and wait for the next one — chances are, it’ll be a banger.

We’d love to blast the roof off from the first track, but venues often have strict sound limits, especially early in the night. Be patient... once we get the go-ahead, we’ll turn it up and unleash the full power of the sound system. It’s worth the wait!

9. Leaning on the Booth or Equipment

Leaning on the booth, placing your drink there, or even tapping along on the mixer might seem harmless — but to a DJ, it’s heart-stopping!Those buttons, faders, and cables are finely tuned to keep the night running smoothly. Let’s keep hands (and drinks) off the gear and energy on the floor.

10. Ignoring the Atmosphere

A skilled DJ isn’t just pressing play — they’re reading the room, adjusting tempo, and curating the mood minute by minute. If your request doesn’t fit the energy at that moment, it’s not personal. We’re working to keep the whole crowd buzzing, and when the time’s right, your song might just be the cherry on top.

🎄 Final Thoughts

At Sounds International Discos, we pour our hearts into every event, crafting the perfect soundtrack to your celebration. We thrive on packed dance floors, smiling faces, and unforgettable nights.

So this festive season, do your DJ a favour: give us space to work our magic, trust our instincts, and dance like nobody’s watching. Together, we’ll make it a night to remember!

Sing loud. Dance harder. And always respect your DJ. 🎶✨
